A Typical New Year at the Hut

As usual the New Year period saw a group of us escaping the last of the Christmas hostilities to get out into the hills.  The hope was to get some snow at this time, and we weren't disappointed.

The predominantly clear skies and cold weather made walking on the snowy tops a delight, even if it did mean the ever ready supply of blankets in the dorms needed to be put to use.
For most of the time over New Year the weather was kind to us with all too short, crisp, clear days.  People ventured to many parts of the lakes including the local haunts of the Helvellyn area as well as over to Blencathra in the north and even as far as the Pennines.
As tradition dictates, the last night of the old year was spent taking part in the usual festivities including a fantastic meal with dishes varying from Estonian black pudding to French cheese with more than a little Australian wine thrown in for good measure.
Partying continued into the night, only briefly interrupted by the midnight chimes of Big Ben and the customary first footer.....

We wish you enjoyable mountaineering in the year to come.
